Maiwenn directs her first feature in 2006, which marks a turning point in her career. With finesse and intelligence, the young director intertwines reality and fantasy with such perfection, it receives critical acclaim from both the public and her peers.

Third time round in the directing chair with “Polisse”, and Maiwenn is awarded the Grand Prix at the prestigious Cannes film festival by Robert de Niro as head of jury. Her ability to provoke raw emotion, with a brutal yet poetic reality is what makes her a stand out on the French and international directing scene.

Later, “Mon Roi” with Vincent Cassel and Emmanuelle Bercot, again massive critical acclaim, is yet another demonstration of Maiwenn’s ability to deconstruct a narrative with integrity, guts and a world class casting.

Maiwenn is handpicked by Karl Lagerfeld as a Chanel spokesmodel, along with Brad Pitt by her side. She remains a friend to the brand, as they accompany her through the shooting of her most recent film, Jeanne du Barry with Johnny Depp. Released in 2023, it opens the Cannes Film Festival. A film set in the heart of the decadent era of pre-revolutionary Versailles, which depicts the court in all its glory and scandal. A chance for Maiwenn to explore the fantasy and luxury of a period piece.
